Atul Ambekar is an addiction psychiatrist, working as a professor at the prestigious National Drug Dependence treatment Centre (NDDTC), AIIMS, New Delhi. He divides his time between clinical-care, teaching, training, research and public health program activities – all in the area of addiction psychiatry. He is also the founding secretary general of the Addiction Psychiatry Society of India (APSI). He is a passionate advocate of evidence-informed alcohol and drug policies and programmes. He has authored a number of publications including research papers, practice guidelines, and training manuals. He has been providing his expertise to many national and international agencies including UNODC, WHO and INCB. Epidemiology is another area close to his heart and he has recently concluded the largest ever national survey on alcohol and drug use in India as the principal investigator.
