Dr Ingrid van Beek AM is a public health and addiction medicine physician who has worked at the sharp end of harm reduction in Sydney’s Kings Cross for more than 30 years – as the Director of the Kirketon Road Centre (until 2017), and the founding Medical Director of the Australia’s first Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (2000 – 2008).
Ingrid was awarded a Doctor in Medicine (MD) in 2010 in recognition of her body of published scholarly work in the international field of Harm Reduction. She is a Conjoint Professor at the Kirby Institute, UNSW Sydney, and chairs the National Centre for Clinical Research on Emerging Drugs (NCCRED).
Ingrid’s contribution to improving the health of marginalised populations was recognised in 2010 when she was awarded Membership of the Order of Australia.
